To solve many geometric problems it is required to find the height of a given figure. These problems have practical importance. When carrying out construction works determination of the height helps to calculate the required amount of materials, and to determine how accurately made slopes and openings. Often to build the patterns you want to have an idea about the properties of geometric shapes.

Many people, despite good grades in school, by building a regular geometrical figures, the question arises how to find the height of triangle or parallelogram. Moreover, the determination of the height of the triangle is the most difficult. This is because the triangle can be acute, obtuse, isosceles or rectangular. For each of the triangles has its own rules of construction and calculation.

How to find the height of a triangle in which all angles are acute, graphic way

If all the angles of a triangle are acute (each angle in the triangle is less than 90 degrees), for finding height, you must do the following.

  1. According to the specified parameters is performed to construct a triangle.
  2. We Introduce the notation. A, b and C are the vertices of the figure. The angles corresponding to each the top – α, β, γ. Opposite to these corners of the side – a, b, c.
  3. Height is the perpendicular from the vertex angle to the opposite side of the triangle. For finding the altitudes of a triangle carry out the construction of the perpendiculars from the vertices of the angle α to the side a, from the vertex of the angle β to the side b, and so on.
  4. The intersection of height and side a will be denoted by H1, and the height h1. The intersection of height and side b is H2, the height h2, respectively. For part c the height h3 is, and the point of intersection of the H3.

Next, for each triangle we use the same notation of sides, angles, heights and tops of the triangles.

Height of a triangle with an obtuse angle

Now consider how to find the height of a triangle if one angle is obtuse (greater than 90 degrees). In this case, the height drawn from the obtuse angle will be inside the triangle. The other two altitudes will be outside of the triangle.

Let the triangle angles α and β are acute, and the angle γ – stupid. Then for building heights emerging from angles α and β, it is necessary to continue the opposite side of the triangle to hold the normals.

How to find the height of isosceles triangle

This figure has two equal sides and the base, the angles under the base are also equal. This equality of sides and angles facilitates building heights and their calculation.

First, draw the triangle. Let the sides b and c and the angles β, γ are respectively equal.

Now draw the altitude from the vertex of the angle α, we denote it h1. For an isosceles triangle the height will at the same time a bisector and a median.

Next, we will construct two other heights: h2 for side b and angle β, h3 for side c and angle γ. These heights will be equal in length.

For the base, you can only do one thing build. For example, the median-the segment connecting the vertex of an isosceles triangle and the opposite side, the base, for finding the heights and bisectors. And to calculate the length of the height for the other two sides can only be built the same height. Thus, to graphically determine how to calculate the height of an isosceles triangle, it is sufficient to find two heights of three.

How to find altitude of right triangle

A right triangle to determine the height a lot easier than others. This is because that the legs are at right angles, and so are the heights.

To build the third height, as usual, is the perpendicular line connecting the vertex of a right angle and opposite direction. In the end, in order to learn how to find the height of a triangle in this case, you only need one build.
