Apparently, in the process of derivation has been some kind of mistake that results in stand. And now in the Russian language this stationery is called file, while originally this meant not files for papers and folders for files.

The easiest option – this is the origin of the term from the Latin word "multifora", which means “multi-hole”, that is the feminine gender of the object having many holes. But this is not the only version – many believe that the reason for the popularity of this term in the Urals is the fact that there was a company producing and distributing office supplies – and called this company Multifora.

There are also other language options – for example, the Italian phrase "multi foro" is literally translated as “many holes». Someone suggests that the name derives from the English phrase "for multi", which could be translated as “a lot of what" if this were a phrase. But in fact, this combination is not used in the English language, so this is just another attempt to put forward a crazy theory.

The Last option seems more realistic, although still inferior to the first two – some people think that the word “multipara” is a contraction of the words ‘mulitformat”. Logical this version seems to be due to the fact that due to the arrangement of perforated holes with one hand multifora is suitable for almost any folder-folder. There is also the option that under the multi refers to the fact that there are differentfiles – A5, A4, A3 and some others. However, this version looks much less likely. Files A5 is still not so popular.
