National unity day: all about the holiday

Eight years ago, the State Duma, the country had adopted several amendments to the Federal law relating to bitter days, celebrated in our country. One of these amendments was the introduction of the new Russians feast, which was called the Day of national unity. It turned out that other holiday (Day of Accord and Reconciliation), who was celebrated throughout the country on 7 November, was actually moved to November 4th. According to most people, the main cause of transfer date – it is the desire of the current government to completely eliminate everything that is associated with the October Revolution of 1917, the anniversary of which falls on the seventh of November.

And since the fourth of November 2005, celebrated the national unity Day in Russia, which now is a national holiday. Various social movements and political parties organize rallies, meetings, charity events, sporting events, musical concerts and other performances.

Alas, most of those who graduated from high school, immediately seeks to displace from memory the information items that they were not interested, in particular, knowledge of the history of our state. The fact that today national unity is rooted in the heroic and glorious events of four centuries ago! Then, on the fourth of November 1612, our ancestors rallied and accomplished the feat in the name of independence and freedom of the Motherland.

In this festival lays special sense. Our country throughout its history many times subjected to serious tests, experiencing times of hostility. When we weakened, we attacked the neighbors, trying to enslave Russian people and capture territory. It was a bloody time. But it was in memory of the plagues (or simply Confusion), when the Russians themselves have lost faith, and mind, unable to distinguish truth from falsehood, good from evil, when mutual resentment and lust for power made them the eye. And this again was used by our enemies.

The Beginning of the 17th century was marked by a terrible famine, which lasted almost three years and massive pestilence of the Russians. At this time in Poland declared the alleged surviving heir to the throne, Dmitry Fedorovich, later called False Dmitry I. Many of our ancestors believed him, because the country was then almost on the edge of certain death, so the poles in 1601, quickly entered Moscow and took the throne of the king. In 1612, the merchant Minin spoke at the square in front of the Nizhny Novgorod people, calling for Russians to unite in order not to die, and to save Russia from the poles, not sparing their lives. Prince Pozharsky became the head of the people's militia, which numbered more than 100 thousand people. And moved they are, of course, to Moscow. November 4 was marked by a great fight of militia against the poles, in which the Russians defended their Homeland. By the way, is the only one in our history, remarkable example of when people decided the fate of their country, demonstrating a model of unity and heroism regardless of religion, origin and occupy in society the status. Since then, Russian people celebrated a holiday called the Day of the Kazan icon of the Mother of God. And so it was until the revolution in ' 17. Therefore, the national unity Day that is celebrated in our time, is not some new invention of modern government, and the date is not taken from the ceiling. It is rather a return to the old and glorious traditions.

As in all other holidays, the Russians are accustomed to congratulate each other on the Day of unity in oral and written form. As a rule, congratulations with Day of unity aimed at the wish of world peace, harmony, friendship and understanding between different groups of people inhabiting our multinational country.

The Day of national unity is very relevant for all of us, because today in Russia is not easy, but the feat of the Russian people under the leadership of Minin and Pozharsky remember, alas, few.
