Distilled water-is water from which all impurities have been removed in the distillation process that involves boiling water and then condensing the steam into a clean container.

Drinking water has been distilled from sea, at least about 200 BC, This process was clearly described by Alexander of Eroticisim.

Currently, about what is distilled water, knows almost everyone. It is widely used in chemical and biological laboratories, as well as in industry, medicine, etc. Besides, it is also necessary for the batteries of cars and trucks. The presence of other ions commonly found in tap water, leads to a drastic reduction of battery life.

Distilled water is also preferable for use in automotive cooling systems. The minerals and ions typically found in tap water, can cause corrosion of internal engine components and lead to rapid wear.

Until world war II, distilling sea water to fresh water was time consuming and expensive process. Even had a saying: "we Need one liter of fuel to make one liter of fresh water". Shortly before the war was the technique of osmosis, by which to extract fresh water from sea or contaminated do not need heating.

Distilled water is usually sold in supermarkets or pharmacies are also available home distillers, which is especially important in regions where limited water resources or tap water is not drinkable without boiling or chemical treatment.

However, its continuous use is not recommended for health. The lack of natural minerals in distilled water causes some concern. Scientists found that drinking water from sources containing high levels of Ca, Mg and Na, can provide the recommended doses of these minerals in the human diet. It was noted that consumption of "hard" water helps to prevent atherosclerotic heart disease.

Distilled water in the home can be obtained in several ways.

1 way

  • Fill the 5 litre stainless steel pan about half full with tap water.
  • Place in the water bowl, be sure it floats and does not touch the bottom of the pan.
  • Water should be hot but not to boil. If it boils, reduce the heat on the stove.
  • You Need to create the condensing effect of using a contrast barrier. This can be done by turning the lid of a saucepan and fill it with ice. When hot steam hits the cold lid to create condensation.
  • Heat the water, the resulting steam will rise and condense on the lid of the pan, then dripping into the bowl that floats in the pot.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and open the lid.
  • Take a bowl of distilled water out of the pan. Be careful when doing this to avoid burns.
  • Cool water.

2 method

  • Take 2 glass bottles. This process works best if at least one of the bottles has a curved throat that prevents water pouring from bottles Fill one bottle with tap water two-thirds full.
  • Connect the two bottles together at the necks and secure tightly with tape.
  • Use a 5-liter stainless steel pan with boiling water. It should be enough to cover the bottle with tap water.
  • Tilt the bottle at an angle of about 30 degrees leaning the empty bottle on the inner side of the rim of the pan.
  • Put a bag of ice on top of it. This will create a contrast barrier, causing condensation of evaporated water.
  • At the end to cool the water.

3

  • Place a large clean container outside to collect rainwater.
  • Leave it outside for 2 full days.
  • Store the distilled water in a clean container.

Please note! You will need to add appropriate chemicals to distilled water before using it in the aquarium. Without these chemicals it would be unable to support fish life and aquatic plants.
