Description

This is a pretty big fish, whose height reaches 1 m, and the weight can be 30-35 kg. Outwardly it resembles a carp, although due to the colour they are difficult to confuse. Because black carp has the appropriate to its name, the color, and only a small part of the abdomen it is very bright. The fins are also dark in color. Elongated body is covered with large scales. The head is small size. Pharyngeal teeth that are well-developed masticatory surface, large and massive.

Distribution

It is distributed EN Masse in the waters of China. In Russia it can be found in the Amur river basin, namely from the mouth of the Songhua river to the estuary, as well as in the Ussuri river.

In the 50-ies of the last century this fish was brought in some rivers of Ukraine, the Northern Caucasus and the Central Asian republics.

Habitat

He prefers channels with slow water current, while far from places with high concentration of shellfish. It's his main food. Thanks to the powerful pharyngeal teeth he easily crushes the shell.
