Keeping cockerel fish without problems

The content of cockerel fish is reduced only to feeding and changing water once a week, but in order for this to be exactly the case, you need to create conditions in which they will be comfortable. These include indicators such as temperature and water quality, lighting and plants.

Betta is an aquarium fish–cockerel, the content of which is simply indecent. This is a very unpretentious creature, which has an incredibly beautiful shape and color, belongs to a subspecies of labyrinthine, that is, those who have the opportunity to breathe atmospheric air. It is this fact that makes it possible to keep cockerel fish in aquariums without aeration.

Their natural habitat is the stagnant reservoirs of Southeast Asia (Thailand, India, Indonesia). There are cases when rice checks with a depth of about 12-15 cm and not very clean are populated with them. This confirms the fact that the content of cockerel fish in aquariums without a filter is possible, since they are able to survive in muddy, stagnant water.

Betta is characterized as an aggressive individual, which forces aquarists to keep males apart not only from each other, but also from females. This fact has not been confirmed definitively, since there is enough evidence of peaceful coexistence of cockerels in a common aquarium with calm fish (catfish, neon, mollies).

But there are enough cases when a male has slaughtered his females or other males. Based on the above, it is best to choose a separate, small (3-4 liters) aquarium for Betta and plant a female to it only if you decide to breed fish.

You can also purchase specialized dry or frozen food at a pet store. An important condition is the amount of food. The fish must be hungry! They get fat from overfeed and die early.
