The Capital of Czech Republic is ready to give tourists a multitude of attractions. This article focuses on only one of them – the castle complex, Vysehrad in Prague. An inexperienced traveler may think that this is just a fortress in the defense walls of the city. But really Vysehrad is an ancient center of Prague. According to legend, it was founded by the Prince of the CROC in the tenth century. What they say about historians? On the other side of the Vltava river stands the Prague Castle. Slavs often practiced a system of dual fortifications. Suffice it to recall the Vyshgorod Kiev or Novgorod Rurik Settlement and the stronghold. Two of the Kremlin seemed to support each other and do not allow a potential enemy to occupy the strategic heights. Thus, Vysehrad is one of the first settlements on the Vltava river, the nucleus from which later was formed in Prague. So this castle complex is included in the list of must see in the Czech capital.

Basilica of saints Peter and Paul

The Romanesque Church built here in 1080, unfortunately, has not survived. In the period when Vysehrad in Prague began to play a leading role, it was rebuilt according to the then fashionable Gothic style. Then, when the Hussite wars devastated the castle, the Cathedral had become dilapidated. To restore it was decided in 1887, in the Gothic revival style. Scientists who have studied bones, came to the conclusion that they do not belong to the Roman soldier, the medieval representative of the genus přemyslid. Around the Cathedral and the cemetery of Czech celebrities. Here lie the remains of čapek, Smetana, Dvorak and others. You should also visit the Pantheon “Slavin”, the ancient Romanesque rotunda of St. Martin and the Baroque chapel of the virgin Mary.
