The Process of administrative reforms, aimed at improving the pastoral Ministry and care of members, has developed in recent years throughout Russia. Create a metropolis on the banks of the Volga river

Part of the process of administrative and ecclesiastical reforms was also established in 2012 the Nizhny Novgorod Metropolia. The history of Orthodoxy on the banks of the Volga dates back to ancient times, but the diocese here has only been established in 1672. The population in these parts related to the most important navigable river of Russia, for centuries grew steadily and by 1912 had reached more than half a million people.

The years before the revolution there were about one thousand one hundred and twenty churches and eight monasteries. For more than three hundred years history the diocese was headed by forty-eight bishops. Having survived in the Soviet years, all the same ordeals that befell the Russian Orthodox Church, the diocese was revived in the years of perestroika. During the period of its existence, it has accumulated significant experience in the spiritual care of the parishioners, which is now being implemented in the framework of a new administrative entity known as Nizhny Novgorod Archdiocese.

Strengthening the centralized management of the Church

The Process of converting the largest dioceses in the Archdiocese is ongoing and its positive results leave no doubt of the correctness of the chosen path. An example of this is the St. Petersburg Metropolia, which became under the control of the Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga Barsonophios one of the main pillars of modern Russian Orthodoxy.

St. Petersburg Metropolitan

This is a natural process. Each newly formed Metropolitanate of the Russian Orthodox Church, including several dioceses, summarizes their experience and thanks to the centralized management allows it to obtain maximum implementation.
