Choosing a practical corner for the bathroom

The bathroom is a room where moisture is constantly concentrated. It settles on the walls, accumulates in corners and niches, gets into places where it cannot be reached to eliminate it. For example, if there is at least a small gap between the bathroom and the wall, water will penetrate there while taking a shower or other water procedures, and this leads to the appearance of fungus and mold. To avoid this, it is most convenient to use bathroom corners. They are divided into two main types: the first are mounted on top of the tile, the second are stacked under it. Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages.

PVC overhead corners

A more common and economical option is a bathroom corner made of polyvinyl chloride, which is installed on top of the edge of the bathtub and tiles. This method is suitable for those who want to change only the bath, without spoiling the laid tile. Installation of such a skirting board can be carried out independently. First you need to clean the surface where the product will be installed from dust and dirt, and then dry it thoroughly. It is necessary to fill the gap with a sealant (now acrylic mixtures are often used for this), let it dry. Measure the length and width of the bathroom, using these data to trim the curbs of the desired length. Cover the edges of the tub with masking tape so as not to stain it with glue. Apply "liquid nails" to the bathroom corner and press it as hard as possible to the treated surface. The stronger and longer the pressure, the better the baseboard will hold. At the point of contact of the cut edges, it is necessary to install special connecting elements. If cracks appear after the operations, they also need to be treated with a sealant.

The first ones must be covered with tiles, and the second ones can be used as an independent decorative element. The gaps between the tiles are sealed with a special mixture to protect the seams, grout, which will protect the corner from mold for a long time.

The right choice

It is considered more practical to install a bathroom corner under the tile – it is less noticeable and exposed to moisture, as well as more durable. But if your plans do not include a large-scale renovation of the bathroom, an overhead corner is also suitable. And if you entrust its installation to a professional, this decor element will be completely unnoticed in the bathroom interior.
